Workshop 3: Non-Traditional Job Search Techniques
for Non-Traditional Job Seekers
9 to 11 a.m., Thursday, September 24

Yes, you can transition from a corporate career to one in the arts, and vice versa. Yes, you can parlay your past 16 years of school volunteerism into a paying job now. Yes, you can make the case that what you bring is valuable to employers – because it is! In this workshop we dig into non-traditional methods for finding jobs that the big job-search engines miss, and about using your networks (on- and offline) and communities to tap into employment opportunities as well as consulting and contracting work.

Have you got a CHECKERED PAST?
Career shifting? Terminally underemployed?
Resume gap? Stop-start career?

Space is limited. Register online at DailyCamera.com/CareerReboot or call 303.473.1272.

THE 2009 JOB MARKET is hard on everyone, but it’s hardest on job seekers with employment gaps, quirky backgrounds and hard-toexplain career stories. The Daily Camera has teamed up with national Careers Expert Liz Ryan to bring answers, encouragement and concrete tools to job-seekers with special challenges in our  new workshop series:

WHAT ABOUT ME?
Job Search for Non-Cookie-Cutter Job Seekers

This three-part program is designed to help job-seekers who don’t fit the mold develop and hone a job-search story, find opportunities through non-traditional means, and embrace their life and work experiences in a way that will translate to talent-starved employers ... even when their resumes don’t fit the stereotypical “up-the career-ladder” framework.

We’ll meet for three engaging and high-energy sessions – pick the topic that best suits your need or sign up for all three workshops! Registration is $100 each or $250 for all three workshops.

Tickets are limited ... only 45 seats available. The seminars will be held at the Daily Camera, 1048 Pearl Street in downtown Boulder ... parking is included in the price of your registration.

Workshop 1: Reclaiming Your Career Ground
9 to 11 a.m., Thursday, September 10

In this program Liz will help job-seekers identify and articulate what they’ve done professionally and personally that will make them valuable hires to their next employers. We’ll talk about “mommy” and “daddy” time, volunteer work, underemployment, and lots of other issues that tend to make job-seekers feel less marketable than they are. Liz will walk participants through exercises designed to build their career mojo and create stories that illustrate their talents and skills.

Workshop 2: Solving the Pain Problem
9 to 11 a.m., Thursday, September 17

Employers could care less about your resume gaps and your career changes – they need people to solve thorny business problems now. Job-seekers who can zero in on business pain have an edge over other candidates, even when their resumes don’t fit the published job description. In this session we’ll talk about avoiding the Black Hole of HR by spotting business pain, locating and reaching decision-makers, and relating their backgrounds to the employer’s pressing need.
